GT Porsche Magazine November 2006 By Chris Knapman
continued ... The other discovery I've made this month is something called Ametech Engine Restore Oil, which I am currently testing on the car [944]. This is a product that has been available in the US for some time and is now sold in the UK. It is a blue liquid [oil] containing a composition of minute beads of copper, silver and lead alloy that you mix in with the car's oil and it replenishes wear and tear in the cylinders. The idea is that by filling in imperfections in the cylinders the Restore brings a new lease of life to high-mileage engines. I've only just poured one litre of RESTORE (which cost £39.99 plus £10 p&p from Ametech, 07771 558800, stores.ebay.co.uk/AMETECH-ENGINE-RESTORE-OIL/ ) into the 944 as per the instructions and now keenly await the results as the fluid beds itself in over the next 500 miles. An update on any differences will follow next month, when the car will hopefully also have made its' debut outing to the Nurburgring... Chris Knapman

Update GT Porsche Magazine December 2006
Finally, an update on the Ametech Engine Restore (www.ametech.co.uk ),
which has now fully bedded in and has given the 2.7-litre lump a fresh lease of life. The engine is perceptively smoother all the way through the rev range, feeling very much like what I would imagine a much lower mileage 944 to, while the mid-range is also noticeably stronger. If you've got a 944, or any higher mileage Porsche for that matter, I would thoroughly recommend giving it a go. Chris Knapman
